This bill amends Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, which deals with vehicles, to reintroduce the Flagship Niagara commemorative registration plate. The Department of Transportation, working with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, will create a replica of a previously available plate. Individuals can apply for this special plate for various vehicle types, including passenger cars, motor homes, motorcycles, trailers, and trucks with a registered gross weight of up to 14,000 pounds, by paying an additional $45 fee on top of the standard registration cost. Of this $45 fee, $15 will go into a dedicated Flagship Niagara Account within the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's Historical Preservation Fund. This account will be managed by the commission to fund the preservation, maintenance, and operation of the Flagship Niagara, a historic ship, and any remaining funds after these expenses are met will be contributed to the broader historical preservation fund. The bill will become effective 60 days after its enactment.
