This bill allows school bus drivers in Tennessee to satisfy their annual medical qualification requirements in one of two ways: either by undergoing a physical and mental examination as previously required, or by providing an annual verification to their local school board that they hold a valid certificate from a medical examiner certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation. This FMCSA certification signifies that the driver is medically fit to operate a commercial motor vehicle, which includes school buses, and is listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. The bill amends existing Tennessee Code Annotated sections related to education and motor vehicle and traffic regulations.
