AI Summary

This bill provides a temporary exception for school districts in northern Mississippi that were impacted by "Winter Storm Fern," which caused the Governor to declare a state of emergency from January 22, 2026, through at least January 27, 2026. Normally, public schools must be in session for at least 180 days per scholastic year, and if a school district is unable to meet this requirement due to a declared state of emergency, they are generally allowed to receive state funding for per-pupil expenditures for up to 10 days less than the required 180 days. However, this bill allows school districts adversely affected by "Winter Storm Fern" to receive payment for up to 15 days of reduced school days during the 2025-2026 scholastic year, even if the adverse effects continue beyond the expiration of the declared state of emergency.
