This bill amends existing Utah law regarding water conservation plans, requiring water providers to include in their plans a commitment of available water to uses on the Great Salt Lake, alongside other measures for water conservation. A "water provider" is defined as a retail water supplier or a water conservancy district, and a "water conservation plan" is a document outlining measures to reduce per capita water use. The bill also specifies that regional water conservation goals, developed by the Division of Water Resources, must consider the Great Salt Lake's water budget and agricultural water use, and these goals will be reevaluated periodically. Water providers must adopt a regional goal or a more ambitious one, or a less ambitious goal with justification. The bill also sets an effective date of May 6, 2026.
