This concurrent resolution proposes an amendment to the Missouri Constitution that would change how judges for the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals are selected and their term lengths. Currently, these judges have longer terms and a different selection process. This resolution, if approved by voters at the next general election in November 2026 or a special election, would reduce the term for these judges from twelve years to seven years and would require the Governor to appoint judges to these positions with the approval of the Senate, rather than the current system which involves nonpartisan judicial commissions for nominations. Judges already in office or whose terms begin before January 1, 2027, would serve out their existing terms, after which their offices would be subject to the new appointment process. The resolution also clarifies that the nonpartisan judicial commissions previously responsible for nominating judges for the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals would be dissolved, with the Governor now directly appointing these judges.
