This bill amends the Mississippi Compulsory School Attendance Law to allow for excused absences for students who are participating in official organized roping and barrel racing events sponsored by the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) or the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA), provided that the event organizer and the student's parent submit written notification to the school superintendent. This change expands the list of valid excuses for temporary nonattendance for compulsory-school-age children, which are defined as children between the ages of six and seventeen, or five if enrolled in full-day kindergarten, who are required to attend school unless they meet specific exemption criteria.
