This bill requires a Local Education Agency (LEA), which is a public school district, that operates a public high school to allow a student enrolled in a private school within that LEA to participate in interscholastic athletics at the public high school they are zoned to attend, provided the private school has fewer than 200 students and the student meets the eligibility requirements of the athletic organization. This provision applies to students in grades 6-12 and specifically allows participation in sports not offered by their private school, while respecting the authority of athletic organizations to set eligibility rules and coaches to make team selections. The bill takes effect for the 2026-2027 school year.
