Bill Summary

Amends, for purposes of the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation's Rent-to-Own Program, the period during which the sales price of a dwelling unit is required to remain fixed from five years to an option period to be determined by the Corporation. Effective 7/1/3000. (HD1)

AI Summary

This bill amends the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation's Rent-to-Own Program by changing the duration for which the sales price of a dwelling unit must remain fixed. Previously, the sales price was fixed for the first five years of the rental agreement, but this bill removes that fixed five-year period and replaces it with an "option period" that the Corporation will determine. During this option period, participants have the right to buy the unit at the established price, and if they don't purchase it within that time, they lose their right to live in the unit, which then becomes available to others. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 3000.
