This bill mandates that the South Dakota Department of Social Services must reimburse therapy services that utilize equine movement for individuals receiving medical assistance through the state's Medicaid program, provided these services are delivered by a licensed physical therapist, occupational therapist, or speech-language pathologist. "Therapy using equine movement" is defined as therapeutic activities that use the interaction between a horse and a person to help achieve treatment objectives. To implement this coverage, the Department of Social Services is required to submit an amendment to the state's plan to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency overseeing Medicare and Medicaid, by August 1, 2026.
