This bill amends West Virginia law to allow election official trainees to be appointed as election officials, creating a program for this purpose. To qualify under this new provision, a trainee must meet existing requirements for election officials, such as being able to read and write English and not being a candidate or closely related to one, but they must also be a junior or senior in high school with a GPA of at least 3.0, have parental consent, and have completed the required election official training program. Additionally, only one such student may serve per political party per precinct, and they must declare their party affiliation. Students serving as election officials under this program will not be marked absent from school. The bill also renumbers existing sections of the law.
