AI Summary

This bill establishes a Law Enforcement Supplemental Pay Program, to be managed by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, which will provide additional annual compensation to eligible local law enforcement officers. Specifically, sworn and certified law enforcement officers employed by municipalities or counties will receive an extra $500 per year for each full-time officer within their department who has completed or will complete five years of service as a law enforcement officer. This five-year service requirement can include time served in any law enforcement role within Mississippi. The supplemental pay is intended to be an addition to an officer's existing salary and cannot be used by their employer to reduce their regular pay from other sources. The Department of Public Safety will be responsible for creating the necessary rules and regulations to implement this program, which is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
