This bill modifies Mississippi law regarding the notification process for towing companies before selling a towed vehicle. The bill also changes the notification method from registered mail to certified mail and shortens the deadline for the initial notification to seven days after the tow, with a subsequent notice of sale also sent via certified mail by the third-party vendor. If no claim is made within ten days of the second certified letter, the towing company can proceed with selling the vehicle after publishing a notice of sale. Additionally, the bill clarifies that for abandoned vehicles, the notification to lienholders must be sent within seven days of receipt, and if no claim is made within thirty days, the third-party vendor must notify the department, which will then remove any outstanding liens from its system. Towing companies are also required to maintain accurate records for three years.
