This bill modifies existing Missouri law regarding the ordering and administration of ketamine, a controlled substance, specifically for mental health purposes. Key provisions include that a physician licensed in Missouri cannot delegate the authority to order ketamine hydrochloride for mental health treatment to anyone else, and if a physician delegates the administration of ketamine for mental health to a certified registered nurse anesthetist (a type of advanced practice nurse specializing in anesthesia), the physician must be physically present and immediately available to supervise and respond to the patient. Furthermore, intravenous ketamine hydrochloride treatment for mental health conditions can only be given if there is a documented diagnosis and treatment plan created by a licensed physician.
