This bill establishes a statewide "Gold Alert System" in Mississippi to help locate missing adults between the ages of 18 and 23 who are believed to be in imminent danger, recognizing that this age group is often legally adults but may still be vulnerable and that existing systems do not adequately address their specific needs. The system, to be implemented by the Bureau of Investigation of the Department of Public Safety, will allow law enforcement agencies to request a Gold Alert if a missing person in this age range is believed to be in danger, has a missing person report filed with no waiting period, and the local agency reports it to the state. The bill also amends the existing "Purple Alert" system, which is used by local law enforcement for missing persons with specific disabilities or conditions, to include the Gold Alert, meaning a Purple Alert can now be issued in addition to or alongside a Gold Alert if deemed necessary by local authorities.
