AI Summary
This bill mandates enhanced security measures and improved collaboration among law enforcement for large events on university campuses in Mississippi. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning will work together, with the DPS having ultimate oversight. The DPS is tasked with strengthening campus law enforcement coordination for a unified command during high-risk events, formalizing intelligence sharing, joint patrols, and rapid response protocols, implementing stricter access control and screening, adopting threat assessment and behavioral monitoring for early intervention, ensuring adequate mental health and conflict resolution resources, and promoting community engagement through awareness campaigns and anonymous tip lines. To facilitate this, the DPS will develop a tip submission platform, and universities must prominently link to it on their websites. Additionally, the Commissioner of Public Safety will appoint a statewide higher education events safety coordinator and training officer to train campus law enforcement on these new protocols.
