This bill amends Arizona Revised Statutes section 32-1122 to add new safety requirements for contractors involved in excavation. Specifically, it mandates that any contractor whose work may include excavation, as determined by the registrar of contractors, must ensure that a "competent person" (defined as someone knowledgeable about excavation safety, able to identify hazards, and authorized to take immediate corrective action) and any employee expected to enter a trench receive proper training in trench safety. This training must be renewed every two years or upon license renewal. Additionally, the bill requires that the qualifying party for a license successfully complete a trench safety training course approved by the division of occupational safety and health.
