This bill amends existing law to require specialty contractors who primarily engage in landscape work to complete at least one hour of continuing education every two years on topics such as water conservation landscaping principles, including understanding water scarcity, selecting native drought-tolerant plants, efficient irrigation, and soil amendment techniques, or fire risk management landscaping principles, including designing landscapes to prevent fire spread and incorporating fire-resistant materials. This new requirement is added to the existing six hours of continuing education that all contractor licensees must complete during each two-year renewal cycle, and it will take effect on May 6, 2026. The bill also includes provisions for coordinating with another bill, H.B. 40, regarding the placement of these new landscape-specific continuing education requirements if both bills become law.
