Bill Summary

This bill requires the report used by medical examiners for investigations of infants zero to three years of age shall include a request for information regarding the date and type of the decedent’s last immunization. If the decedent received more than one immunization at the time of the last immunization, the information provided shall include all immunizations received. The bill requires the state medical examiner to adopt rules to comply with the bill.

AI Summary

This bill mandates that medical examiner reports for infant deaths between the ages of zero and three years must now include a request for information about the child's last immunization, specifically the date it was given and the type of vaccine administered. If the child received multiple vaccinations during that last appointment, all of them must be documented. To ensure this new requirement is properly implemented, the state medical examiner is directed to create and adopt administrative rules, following the procedures outlined in chapter 17A of Iowa law, which governs rulemaking in the state.
