This bill amends existing law to prohibit the underground injection of "bioslurry," which is defined as agricultural waste, food waste, manure, paper sludge, or sewage sludge, into any well located within a groundwater management area that was established by regulation before January 1, 2020, under the Ground Water Management Act of 1992. This prohibition is in addition to the existing ban on hydraulic fracturing, which is the process of injecting fluid under pressure to create or expand fractures in rock formations to extract natural gas or oil, within these designated groundwater management areas. The intent is to protect groundwater resources in these specific areas by preventing the injection of these types of waste materials.
