Specifically, it adds licensed and registered child care programs to the list of sites that create these zones, alongside places like domestic abuse shelters, public parks, schools, and sexual assault shelters. The purpose of these zones is to restrict where individuals required to register as sex offenders can establish or reside, with several exceptions outlined in the law, such as being incarcerated, homeless and admitted to a shelter, or if the child care program was established after the offender took up residence. Violating these restrictions is a felony, with penalties increasing for subsequent offenses.
