This bill modifies existing New Mexico laws to reduce the frequency of certain required training for public school personnel, meaning teachers, administrators, and other staff. Specifically, it changes the requirement for anti-racism and racial sensitivity training from an annual occurrence to a one-time completion within the first year of employment. It also adjusts the training requirements for child abuse and neglect, ethical misconduct, professional responsibilities, sexual abuse and assault, and substance abuse, also shifting the completion deadline to within the first year of employment. For diabetes care training, the bill changes the requirement from annual training for all school nurses and diabetes care personnel to training within the first year of employment and when circumstances necessitate it, while also requiring training for school personnel supervising students with diabetes and bus drivers to be completed rather than provided annually. Finally, it modifies the bullying prevention training requirement for school employees and volunteers to be completed within their first year of employment or before or at a reasonable time after their service begins, rather than annually.
