This bill requires public school districts in Mississippi to adopt policies educating students and parents about the dangers of social media, including issues like revenge porn, blackmail, child predators, and grooming, which is the act of manipulating a child into a sexual situation. The State Board of Education must develop a model policy by July 1, 2027, that defines these dangers, outlines safety planning for victims, establishes reporting and investigation procedures, mandates staff training, and includes outreach to students and parents. Each school district must then adopt its own policy based on this model by October 1, 2028, and include it in their code of student conduct, personnel policies, and discipline policies. Additionally, schools will incorporate age-appropriate lessons on healthy relationships and dating violence into their curriculum from kindergarten through 12th grade, with specific instruction on social media predators and grooming to be taught in health courses required for graduation.
