AI Summary
This bill authorizes certain municipalities, specifically those with a population of 5,000 or less according to the latest federal census, to permanently withdraw from the Municipal Police Employees' Retirement System (MPERS), a retirement plan for municipal police officers. To do so, a municipality must pass a resolution to terminate its participation. Before the termination takes effect, which will be 60 days after the resolution is adopted, the municipality must notify the MPERS in writing at least 30 days in advance and inform any new hires that they will not be part of the retirement system. For employees who were already members of the MPERS before the termination date, their membership will continue, and the municipality will no longer make contributions to the system for any employees hired after the termination becomes effective.
