This bill modifies existing requirements for student assessments in Virginia, specifically for students in grades seven through 12 who have disabilities. Currently, these students, if they participate in alternative assessment methods or the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP), are still subject to the rule that their Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments or permissive local alternative assessments must be administered no earlier than two weeks before the end of the school year, and their scores must count for at least 10% of their final course grade. This bill creates an exception, exempting these specific students with disabilities from these timing and grading weight requirements for their assessments.
