This bill, titled the Mississippi Democratic Accountability in Board Appointments Act, amends existing law to grant the person or entity responsible for making appointments to state boards or commissions (the "appointing authority") more freedom in their selection process. Specifically, it removes restrictions that previously required appointing authorities to choose candidates from lists or nominations provided by the board or commission itself, or by leaders or groups within professional or other associations. While these preexisting laws mandating selection from generated lists are nullified, the appointing authority remains free to consider recommendations from any individual or group in the state. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2026.
