This bill redefines the practice of optometry in Tennessee by expanding the scope of services optometrists can provide, including the examination, diagnosis, management, prevention, and treatment of eye conditions and diseases, with the ability to prescribe and administer pharmaceutical agents. It specifically allows optometrists to perform certain primary eye care and surgical procedures, order diagnostic tests, and utilize laser-assisted procedures for the anterior segment of the eye, provided they have the necessary education, training, and board certification. The bill also permits the use of local anesthetics for specific minor eyelid procedures and the administration of emergency medications like epinephrine, but sets clear limitations on what surgical procedures optometrists are *not* allowed to perform, such as retina laser procedures, LASIK, PRK, and cataract surgery.
