This bill amends existing Alabama law regarding window tint on motor vehicles to allow for darker tint on personal vehicles used by certain individuals. Specifically, it modifies the rules that limit how much light can pass through a vehicle's windows, which are currently set at allowing at least 32% light transmission and no more than 20% light reflectance, with a measurement tolerance of three percent. The key change is that this tint restriction will not apply to personal vehicles belonging to and occupied by active or retired state, local, or federal law enforcement officers, as well as county or municipal prosecutors. These individuals will be required to carry proper employment identification when driving their personal vehicles with the authorized darker tint. The bill is set to become effective on October 1, 2026.
