This bill authorizes the Disability and Communication Access Board, which is the state agency responsible for disability services, to issue a temporary disability parking travel placard to qualified applicants who already possess a valid removable windshield placard, commonly known as a disability parking permit. To obtain this travel placard, applicants must submit a completed application form and proof of their travel plans, such as a flight or bus ticket. The travel placard will be valid only for the duration of the trip, expiring at the end of the month following the return date indicated on the travel proof. This provision aims to address the issue faced by Hawaii residents who, when traveling out of state, need to use their disability parking permit for accessible parking at locations like airports or ports, but also need to take their permit with them for use during their travels, preventing them from having to choose between these needs.
