This bill allows a municipal court to order a municipality to fix a property maintenance violation if the person or entity responsible for the violation fails to do so within 30 days of being found in violation. The cost of this fix, or "remediation," will be charged to the property owner as a lien, which is a legal claim against the property, in favor of the municipality, though the municipality can also pursue other ways to recover these costs. However, the municipality cannot undertake the remediation if the cost would negatively impact its finances or is too expensive based on its budget.
