AI Summary

This bill requires merchants in Mississippi who sell goods and services in person to round the final total price, after taxes and discounts, to the nearest five-cent denomination when customers pay with cash, which refers to U.S. coins and currency. This rounding rule applies to totals ending in 1, 2, 6, or 7 cents by rounding down, and totals ending in 3, 4, 8, or 9 cents by rounding up, to the nearest amount divisible by five. However, this rounding does not apply to transactions totaling less than four cents or to any payment made by methods other than cash, such as credit cards, debit cards, checks, or electronic transfers. Importantly, any sales taxes will not be affected by these rounding adjustments, and the Executive Director of the Department of Finance and Administration will issue regulations to put this law into effect starting July 1, 2026.
