This bill establishes the Legislative Education Support and Professional Development Commission, a new body tasked with studying and addressing communication, coordination, and support gaps among various educational entities, including the state board, the Legislature, Local Education Agencies (LEAs, which are defined as school districts or charter schools), and individual educators. The commission will also evaluate professional development and support services available to educators outside of existing membership-based organizations and assess opportunities for innovation in educator recognition, professional advancement, and accountability. The commission's membership will consist of legislators from both the Senate and House of Representatives, along with representatives from the State Board of Education, school district superintendents, charter school directors, teachers, local school board members, and individuals with expertise in educator professional development. The commission is required to hold its first meeting by October 1, 2026, and submit a report with findings and recommendations to the Education Interim Committee by November 1, 2027. The commission itself is scheduled to be repealed on March 15, 2028.
