AI Summary

This bill, known as "Officer O's Crime Bill," establishes mandatory minimum prison sentences for certain serious firearm-related offenses, specifically a twenty-year sentence without parole for convictions of class A felonies involving firearms. It elevates the penalties for several actions: possessing any firearm or ammunition while facing prosecution for or having a prior felony, crime of violence, firearm offense, or drug sale conviction will now be a class A felony instead of a class B felony. Similarly, individuals subject to a court order restraining them from contacting, threatening, or abusing someone will face a class A felony for possessing, controlling, or transferring firearms or ammunition, a change from a misdemeanor. Carrying a firearm while under the influence of a controlled substance, and unlawfully possessing methamphetamine while carrying a firearm, will also be classified as class A felonies, both previously misdemeanors.
