Previously, a first offense of cockfighting was a petty misdemeanor, a second offense was a misdemeanor, and subsequent offenses were a fourth-degree felony, while dog fighting offenses were always a fourth-degree felony. This bill removes these tiered penalties for cockfighting and makes any violation of the law regarding cockfighting, including being present without intervening or owning/equipping a fighting cock, a fourth-degree felony, aligning it with the penalty for dog fighting.
