This bill amends the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which is the law that grants the District of Columbia its powers of self-governance, to prevent the D.C. Council from passing any legislation that would allow euthanasia or assisted suicide within the District. Specifically, it adds a new provision to the Home Rule Act that prohibits the Council from enacting any law, rule, or guidance that permits individuals to engage in activities related to euthanasia or assisted suicide, or that would reduce penalties for such activities, as defined by the Assisted Suicide Funding Restriction Act of 1997. Additionally, this bill repeals the existing "Death With Dignity Act of 2016," which was the prior law in D.C. that allowed for medical aid in dying.
