This bill amends existing law to reclassify offenses related to possessing a "large capacity feeding device," which is a component of a firearm that holds many rounds of ammunition. Specifically, it makes a first offense of possessing such a device a misdemeanor, punishable by up to two years in jail or a $1,000 fine, and reduces the maximum penalty for subsequent offenses to a felony, carrying a penalty of up to five years in jail or a $5,000 fine, with the device subject to forfeiture in both cases. The bill also clarifies that these penalties apply to anyone violating the provisions of the section, with exceptions for federally licensed firearm dealers, individuals who lawfully possessed such devices before June 20, 2022, and certain law enforcement officers and military personnel. This act will become effective immediately upon its passage.
