Violations of this prohibition are classified as a class B misdemeanor for individuals, with food establishments facing civil penalties of up to $1,000 for individuals and $5,000 for corporations for a first offense, escalating to up to $25,000 for subsequent offenses, with all collected penalties going to the animal population control fund, and licenses of businesses can be suspended. The bill also grants the department authority to inspect facilities and products to determine if they are lab grown or 3D printed meat, issue notices of violation, and establish standards for compliance, with aggrieved parties having 30 days to seek judicial review.
