This bill amends the existing law governing the "urban collaborative," a program that provides alternative education and diagnostic services for students struggling in traditional school settings, by establishing a board of trustees to oversee its operations and clarifying the composition of this board, with each member district appointing one trustee and an additional one for every thirty students they send to the collaborative. Importantly, the bill adds provisions to protect Providence's participation in the urban collaborative during the state's takeover of the Providence public schools, stipulating that any decision to end Providence's involvement or withdraw its students requires approval from the Providence school board, and that Providence schools cannot reduce funding to the collaborative below the fiscal year 2025 level plus any state aid increases, ensuring continuity of services for these students.
