An Act to create a taskforce to study the impact of artificial intelligence systems on the state.

This bill establishes a taskforce to study the ongoing development and impact of artificial intelligence (AI) systems on the state of South Dakota, with the taskforce to be dissolved after delivering its findings and recommendations by December 1, 2028. The taskforce will be composed of a diverse group of individuals, including legislators from both the House and Senate, representatives from various industries such as healthcare, banking, retail, manufacturing, and technology, educators and administrators from school districts, county and municipal auditors and officials, a sheriff or police chief, and appointees from the Governor, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and the Board of Regents, with vacancies filled by the original appointing authority. The Legislative Research Council will provide administrative support, and one legislator will chair the taskforce, with another from the opposite chamber serving as vice chair. This Act will take effect on January 1, 2027.
