This bill directs the Boards of Medicine and Nursing, which are state agencies responsible for regulating healthcare professionals, to jointly study and report on the possibility of creating a temporary or provisional license for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). APRNs are nurses who have completed advanced education and training, such as nurse practitioners or nurse anesthetists, and can provide a wider range of healthcare services. The study will involve examining what requirements would be needed for such temporary licenses, including who would be eligible, how these nurses would be supervised, what their scope of practice would be, and how long the temporary status could last. The Boards must also propose measures to ensure patient safety during any period of temporary or provisional licensing and will report their findings and recommendations to the Chairs of the House Committee on Health and Human Services and the Senate Committee on Education and Health by November 1, 2026.
