This resolution respectfully calls on the United States Congress and the President to pass and enact S. 1748, the Kids Online Safety Act, which aims to enhance protections for children and adolescents on online platforms. The Act would require covered online platforms, which are websites, apps, and services that are accessed by individuals under 17 years of age, to implement safeguards such as default privacy settings, limits on addictive design features, and options to opt out of harmful algorithmic recommendations. It would also restrict market and product research on minors, provide parents with tools to manage privacy and screen time, and increase transparency through independent audits and public reporting. Furthermore, the Act would establish a Kids Online Safety Council to advise Congress on emerging risks and best practices for protecting minors online, and would empower the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general to enforce these safety standards.
