This bill increases the membership of the State Crime Laboratory Commission from five to nine individuals, adding the chief justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, the president of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the public defender, and the president of the Rhode Island Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers to its ranks. Additionally, the bill changes the leadership structure by appointing the deans of the University of Rhode Island's Colleges of Pharmacy and Engineering as co-executive secretaries, who will jointly oversee the commission's administration, including budgetary and personnel matters, and report on the state crime laboratory's activities. This act will become effective immediately upon its passage.
