This resolution designates February 19, 2026, as "Wear Purple Day" in Pennsylvania to raise awareness about sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in young people, which is a leading cause of death in children, adolescents, and young adults, often occurring without warning. The resolution encourages residents, students, educators, and organizations to wear purple to honor children who have tragically died from SCA and to support initiatives that promote heart health, such as early identification through cardiac screenings, prompt response with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and the placement of AEDs in public spaces. This observance also aims to uplift grieving families and reinforce a commitment to preventing future tragedies through increased awareness, education, and action, inspired by the legacy of Peyton Walker and the work of the Peyton Walker Foundation.
