This bill amends the Utah Consumer Privacy Act to include specific provisions for motor vehicle data privacy, defining terms like "motor vehicle manufacturer" and "vehicle data collection system" to clarify what data is covered. While manufacturers can collect data for internal product improvement without explicit consent, and certain data related to vehicle safety, operation, or legal compliance is exempt from consent requirements, these exemptions have limitations regarding temporary processing and transmission. The bill also mandates that the Motor Vehicle Division will inform owners about their data privacy rights on its website, and these changes will take effect on January 1, 2027.
