This bill mandates that various health insurance plans and programs in Massachusetts must cover the appropriate weight-based dosage of epinephrine injectors, which are devices approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for administering epinephrine, including auto-injectors and pre-filled syringes with pre-measured doses equivalent to auto-injectors. This coverage requirement applies to state employees insured through the Group Insurance Commission, individuals covered by Medicaid-managed care or primary care clinician plans, and those with various types of private insurance policies, including accident and sickness insurance, employers' health and welfare funds, hospital service plans, medical service agreements, and health maintenance contracts. Importantly, these epinephrine injectors cannot be subjected to higher deductibles, coinsurance, copayments, or out-of-pocket limits than other prescribed drugs covered by the respective plans.
