This bill, known as the "Senior Safe Zone Act," establishes new regulations for the application of restricted use pesticides, which are pesticides that require special training and licensing to use due to their potential for harm. Starting January 1, 2027, it will be prohibited to apply these restricted use pesticides within a half-mile radius of any elderly health care facility, defined as a licensed facility providing medical, nursing, or rehabilitative care to individuals aged sixty-two or older, excluding federal facilities. However, there are several exemptions to this rule, including for whole structure fumigation, invasive species control conducted by specific government entities or university-affiliated committees, pesticides used by the Department of Health, and pesticides used for wood preservation. The bill also clarifies that if these new regulations conflict with the instructions on a pesticide label, the more restrictive provision, meaning the one that offers greater protection, will apply.
