This bill modifies the rules for retired education employees who are rehired as teachers or administrators, removing the requirement that they must work in a teacher shortage area identified by the Department of Education (DOE). For those rehired after June 30, 2026, into Department or charter schools, they will be paid the entry-level salary for their position as determined by collective bargaining agreements and will not receive additional employment benefits beyond their retirement pay. The DOE is also required to create rules to implement these changes, including procedures for identifying shortage areas and guidelines for hiring retired employees in line with union contracts.
