This bill transfers the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission from the Department of Accounting and General Services to the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, and shifts certain responsibilities concerning the Works of Art Special Fund from the Comptroller to the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism. The King Kamehameha Celebration Commission, which promotes Hawaiian culture and history, will now be administratively housed within the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, with its director responsible for fiscal and administrative matters, and the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism will handle reimbursements for commission members' expenses and manage funds for the commission. Similarly, the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, which supports and promotes arts, culture, history, and humanities across the state, will also be placed within the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism for administrative purposes, and its executive director will work with the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism on matters like administering funds and implementing art programs. The bill also appropriates funds for new positions within the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to assist with these transitions, and it specifies an effective date of January 1, 3000.
