This bill requires parties in a civil lawsuit, or their lawyers, to reveal any person or entity, other than their own lawyer, who stands to gain financially from the outcome of the case. This disclosure must be in writing to the court and all other parties involved, and it must include copies of any agreements that create this financial stake. This information must be provided within ten days of the agreement being made or when the lawsuit is filed, whichever is later. However, this requirement does not apply if the payment is solely for the repayment of a loan's principal, or the repayment of a loan's principal plus interest that doesn't exceed certain limits, or for the reimbursement of attorney fees, including contingent fees paid to lawyers. The bill also mandates that parties must update any disclosures if they become incomplete or incorrect, and it clarifies that this new disclosure requirement does not prevent parties from seeking this information through the standard legal discovery process.
