This bill amends Arizona law regarding probation for certain crimes against children, specifically changing the requirement for monitoring. Previously, a judge *may* have imposed a fee on a probationer convicted of a dangerous crime against children to cover the cost of a monitoring device, such as global position system (GPS) or electronic monitoring. Now, under this bill, the court *shall* impose such a fee, making the monitoring and associated cost recovery mandatory for these offenders. This change applies to individuals convicted on or after November 1, 2006, who committed a dangerous crime against children, are required to register as sex offenders, and are classified as a level three offender. The fees collected will be deposited into the adult probation services fund.
