This bill increases the total assessment fee charged in municipal court cases, excluding minor traffic violations, when a person is found guilty or pleads guilty, no contest, forfeits bond, or enters a diversion program. The total fee will rise from $22.50 to $28, with the additional $5 being specifically directed to two funds: the Kansas commission on peace officers' standards and training fund, which supports training for law enforcement officers, and the crime victims assistance fund, which aids victims of crime. Other portions of the original fee are also reallocated, with the amount going to the Kansas commission on peace officers' standards and training fund increasing from $5 to $10, and the amount going to the crime victims assistance fund increasing from $0.50 to $1. This change amends an existing law, K.S.A. 2025 Supp. 12-4117, and repeals the previous version of that section.
